About the Item

Red travertine David Natidze is a Belgium-based sculptor born in 1969 in Georgia known for his refined stone sculptures that blend modernist tradition with minimalist abstraction. He graduated in sculpture from the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts in 1994 and later studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Early in his career, Natidze collaborated with a Belgian artist to create large-scale public sculptures for the Leuven train station, one of his first major contributions to public art in Belgium. His practice is rooted in a profound sensitivity to form and material. Drawing from nature, memory, and architecture, he distills shapes into essential, meditative forms. Working primarily with natural stone, his sculptures evoke silence, strength, and introspection. In addition to his artistic practice, Natidze has made significant contributions to cultural heritage. He worked on the restoration of the Grand Place in Brussels and on the St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral, among others. He is the winner of an international sculpture symposium, with a permanent sculpture installed in O Grove, Galicia (Spain) and his monumental work "Silent Resistance" stands in Tbilisi. Natidze has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Europe and Georgia, and as part of the Europalia Georgia. Since 2008, he has taught at Atelier Schildershof in Schilde and leads sculpture workshops at CVO Mechelen, nurturing new generations of artists.
