About the Item
This is a unique bronze container.
The figure has always been Deborah Ballard’s muse in her sculptures. Ballard works in bronze, cast stone, and plaster; her figures ranging from life-size to hand-size. Ballard says, “I always have this inner voice that dictates what I do and how I think.” The concept of the human body as a “container,” a vessel of thoughts, hopes and dreams, began when she was an undergrad studying ceramics at SMU. Her early vessels transformed into free-standing figures by the time she completed her MFA at SMU in 1990. Throughout her MFA, she worked daily from the model and credits SMU Professor Jay Sullivan for teaching her the technical skills she uses to make her work. In the 25 years since, her sculptures have developed from her imagination, with a realism based in her foundation of direct observation from the model and gross anatomy classes. Challenged by complexity and the need for experimentation, Ballard strives to animate her figures with new postures, gestures and expressive patinas.

Cloud
By Anita Huffington
Located in Dallas, TX
The alabaster of "Cloud," upon which this bronze is based, is in the collection of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Anita Huffington's work is also included in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; the Morris Museum in Augusta, Georgia; the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock; and the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Anita Huffington's history includes a long period in New York City starting in the late fifties when she studied dance with Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham. Huffington became acquainted with a circle of artists of the New York School, including Kline and de Kooning, as well as a diverse and individualistic group of painters, sculptors, musicians, and poets in this vital and idealistic period. These experiences, and her later choice to live in the woods of the Arkansas Ozarks, sowed the seeds for the sculpture she makes in stone, bronze, wood, and mixed media. Her work reflects both the world of art and the spirit of her life in the woods.
Anita Huffington states:
"I do direct carving in stone and make bronzes, often using the stone as part of the process. My sculpture is usually based on the human form, primarily the female nude. I often carve torsos...

Captivated - Serene Inspiring Figurative Abstract Bronze Iron Wall Sculpture
By Mireia Serra
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Mireia Serra creates sensuous bronze and iron sculptures showing the beauty of snapshots caught in life, which are full of emotions and feelings along the life journey. Her metal artworks capture the beauty of moments: A young lady challenged by the adventure of a new trip, a young man pondering about his dreams, a lost girl thinking about different options to know more about herself…Mireia vividly demonstrates how a piece of fine art sculpture could be incorporated into our daily life, linking us with art that inspires and triggers us to contemplate life and relationship. Serra describes her artistic vision as “Figurative sculptures depicting contemporary everyday scenes. Reflect my inner world thus expressing moods and desires, feelings, joys and concerns stemming from my relationship with the world".
This wall-mounted iron and bronze sculpture measures 5 inches tall, 9.5 inches wide, and 1 inch deep. This artwork is edition 14 of 18. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Convenient local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and international shipping are available.
Born in Barcelona in 1973, Mireia Serra's lifelong passion for sculpting was temporarily diverted by her parents' persuasion to pursue a career in fashion design. However, in 1998, she abandoned a lucrative role as a lingerie designer to follow her artistic calling and seek true fulfillment within the realm of fine arts. It was a transformative decision, allowing her to rediscover her true purpose and embark on a creative odyssey that continues to unfold to this day. In some of her present sculptures, the presence of elements from the fashion world such as cameras, texture, and detailed finishing of the clothes, and shoes are apparent.
She graduated in 2002 from the Llotja School of Arts in Barcelona (the same school that took under its wing Antoni Gaudí, Pablo Picasso, and Joan Miró), specializing in iron and bronze. Later she took an advanced sculpture portrait course taught by sculptor Jorge Egea at MEAM (Museo European d'Art Modern) in order to master her technique.
Working as a full-time sculptor since 2003, Serra started to exhibit with galleries throughout Spain and landed her first solo shows and her first international art fair in Madrid in 2013. Her works have been represented by Artspace Warehouse since 2017. Since 2016 Mireia Serra has been exhibited in galleries and art fairs in Germany, Austria, France, Luxembourg, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, and Hong Kong.
Artspace Warehouse has been representing and exhibiting Mireia Serra's original artworks since 2017. The gallery has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide.
