About the Item

BRONZE FIGURAL GROUP “LA DANSE” BY EUGENE MARIOTON (FRENCH, 1857-1933) This exceptional work by Eugéne Marioton is a dynamic expression of true love. It is presumed to be an allegorical moment between Zephyr and Psyche, the work is generally titled “La Danse”. The passion and purity of the moment are emphasized by the wind that seemingly billows through their togas and scarves as each lover is entranced looking deeply into each other’s eyes. She floats almost weightlessly elevated over him as the dance through a swirl of clouds which for the base and the anchor of the grouping. The details of the sculpture are marvelous, with beautiful modeling of the male and female body and crisp yet featherlike drapery, it is perfectly cast and finished bronze. Details such as wrinkles along the finger joints, nails, individual hairs, perfect eyelids define the quality of this masterpiece. The base is crisply signed Eug. Marioton with an E. Colin Foundry mark below. Signed in base “Eug. Marion, Hors Concours”, sealed with Tiffany & Co., and foundry mark of E. Colin and Cie, Paris Material: cast bronze Dimensions: 32"h x 18"w x 9' deep
