About the Item
Eva Ennist, a mixed media and fiber artist, travels extensively through the Far East, gathering materials and techniques for her practice. The artwork "SOMETHING ELSE #2" uses material gathered from her travels to India – sal leaf plates are typically used for festival meals. Beautifully framed in black wood, tinted with watercolor, this piece measures 16x16", and framed at 17x17".
Eva Ennist's work was most recently shown at Fresh Paint, a group show at Art of Our Century gallery in Greenwich Village, New York City, from February 27 to March 22, 2020.
Ennist’s work in mixed media/fiber art has been exhibited across North America in public galleries such as the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery, Textile Museum of Canada, Harbourfront Centre, Durham Art Gallery, Comox Valley Art Gallery, and the Burlington Art Centre as well as in numerous private galleries & artist-run centers. Her work is found in many private and corporate collections.
She has taught a variety of textile/fiber courses for the Material Art & Design Program at OCAD University since 1982. Ennist held the position of Assistant Professor for 10 years and was the Fibre Program Head since 2009.

MEMORY BOX is a new watercolor on Arches paper by Fleur Thesmar. The artwork measures 22x30", and is a striking composition in tones of rose, emerald green, mauve, blue and violet. It's a courageous work of art, seemingly a map or record of change for the artist and her family.
From Fleur Thesmar – "Memory Box is a painting of how we remember changes in our lives, sometimes in a fuzzy way. Daily rituals can blur important moments where a shift occured. We look at pictures or videos and over time tend to lose details."
Having moved her family from France to America, artist Fleur Thesmar closely observed the changes in her world – from the seemingly obvious such as surrounding landscapes, the light of day and weather, the flowers, trees and shorelines – to the smaller less obvious shifts, such as how one behaves in a new world, in a new home, how one cherishes certain belongings and certain memories.
Her artistic practice is borne out of that close observation and shift in perspective, and has led to a number of successful gallery shows in the U.S. and internationally. TRANSFIGURATION is a new watercolor on Fabriano paper by Fleur Thesmar. The artwork measures 30x22", and is a structured composition in tones of green, blue, umber, rose and teal. Bordering on abstraction and figuration, a landscape of trees and water and sky appears to open up symmetrically, possibly revealing a spirit.
From Fleur Thesmar – "Inspired by a mathematical model, I painted this abstraction which slowly took on the form of a person. The shivering brushstrokes create a textured relief, while the person seems to emerge from and recede into the background."
