About the Item

‘Walking Tiger’ (38cm tall x 73cm x 15cm) by the award-winning British sculptor Fred Gordon. This Bronze sculpture captures the essence of the tiger in motion The work is part of a signed and numbered limited edition of just 12. Fred Gordon is known for his instinctive, dynamic approach to wildlife sculpture. With no formal sculpture training, he developed his distinctive technique through hands-on experience, working directly from life in the field and in the foundry. From tracking wildlife in Sri Lanka and South Africa to sketching in the British countryside, Fred’s process is grounded in firsthand observation and an obsession with anatomy and behaviour. Walking Tiger is poised and alert, mid-stride with latent energy rippling through its frame. Gordon sculpts with heated sheets of wax layered quickly by hand; producing a spontaneous, tactile effect that lends the surface both abstraction and movement. As he says, he is not chasing anatomical perfection, but “trying to capture a moment in wax,” a flicker of life, a nuance in posture, the tension in a pause. But it is the eyes that truly anchor his pieces. Gordon believes “you can see life in the sculpture through the eyes.” And in both tigers, they become the emotional focal point. Up close, their gaze holds presence, character, and a deep, instinctive intelligence, pulling the viewer in as if the animal might shift or breathe at any moment. Each sculpture is finished in a marbled patina of natural greens, browns, and greys; evoking the tonal richness of the wild and enhancing the layered, almost collaged quality of the surface. We charge shipping at cost, and as each work requires specific crating by our shippers, do reach out with your address so we might quote you for a bespoke door to door service.
