She has been published in magazines reaching global circulations, from Art and Antiques to European Home and Gardens. Her artistic integrity has been sought out by organizations ranging from the National Parks Service to the President of the United States. A Fellow of the National Sculptors’ Guild (1994) headquartered in Loveland, Colorado; and member of the prestigious National Sculpture Society (member since 1998, Fellow in 2007). “My work is a cumulative process made of my life experiences and my desire to sculpt the human form. Each piece tells a story of how it was created-every stroke supporting the narrative. I can see in each of my pieces the evolution of learning and the discovery that takes place when I develop the soul and likeness of my subject.
I try to retain in the sculpture the beginning strokes and gestures, because for me they contain the truth of the spirit. The finished piece hopefully reveals my thoughtful study of the subject and the energy of the creative process.”
'Part of Jane's artistic genius is her ability to select a moment with which all of us can relate to in our lives. These recognizable moments skip over generations, each generation finding recognition with it. The scene is timeless in the human experience and each takes us to that moment causing us to reflect and evaluate the importance of love, relationship and achievement.
The textures of DeDecker's work bespeak her passion, integrity and honesty. Her practiced and studied craftsmanship coupled with her dedicated respect for others achieves the balance, which makes a hard metal come alive with spirit and soul. This is why her collectors never tire of her work. These are the reasons her peers recognize her as being at the forefront of this century's contemporary sculptors.' - John Kinkade, Executive Director of the National Sculptors' Guild

A girl and boy release boats they've constructed from nature into the water.

The Boat
“I must launch out my boat. The languid hours pass by on the
shore---Alas for me!
The spring has done its flowering and taken leave.
And now with the burden of faded futile flowers I wait and linger.
The waves have become clamorous, and upon the bank in the shady lane
the yellow leaves flutter and fall.
What emptiness do you gaze upon!
Do you not feel a thrill passing through the air
with the notes of the far-away song
floating from the other shore?”

Jane DeDecker’s energetic and dynamic bronze sculptures serve as a reflection of her own life experiences and those of her closely-knit family. Her twelve nieces and nephews are the primary source of her inspiration, though DeDecker’s sculptures are not portraits. In fact, her loose style leaves her viewers with room for interpretation, so as to see their own lives within her sculptures. This imprecision, combined with her unique ability to capture specific moments to which each viewer can relate on a personal level, regardless of age, give DeDecker’s work a timeless quality that spans generations.
DeDecker began her artistic training as a painter at the University of Northern Colorado, until a professor, noticing her joy in the portrayal of shapes and forms, suggested she try her hand at sculpture. Taking his advice, DeDecker went on to study at Gobelins School of Tapestry in Paris, and in returning to Colorado, spent five years as master craftsman to the notable bronze sculptor George Lundeen.
DeDecker is a Fellow of the National Sculpture Society and has gone on to receive copious awards, such as the Critics Choice Award from the Kimball Art Museum, Fort Worth, TX. Major installations of DeDecker’s sculptures are located at the Presidential Library in Washington, DC; the Mayo Clinic...
