About the Item
Born in 1978 in Paris, Jean-Philippe Illanes graduated from the Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-artsde Paris in 2005 and lives and works in London. His work is based on the observation of his urban environment and his daily life. He explores urban wastelands over his travels, like an archivist looking for elements that bind in order to list them in the form of drawings. The coherence of the choice of materials is essential in his research to describe his subjects. He diverts concrete and ceramics to create an archeology of the present. Inspired by the remnants of everyday objects, he creates sculptures and paintings that aim to rehabilitate the heritage of the uninteresting interpreted with a surrealist touch thank come from his studies.
