About

John Humphreys sculptures are seriously collectable. A first time on 1stDibs. Many of John's worldwide collectors remain anonymous, however we will let you in on his most recent sale .......the musician Mick Fleetwood and Mick has just bought his 2nd piece. Here is John Humphreys background, he was born in Salford and has studied at Rochdale College of Art, Gloucester College of Art and Design and The Royal Academy. Having worked in the film industry he fuses fine art with his experience with special effects which creates sculpture that confuses the viewer. His concern with distorted dimensions presents a fresh and interesting way of exploring portrait sculpture, making the viewer work hard to correct the information they are presented with. His sculpture is both surreal and super-real, challenging conventional perceptions of space and hinting at a fourth dimension. A fine art sculptor, his work in film and television includes projects such as Dr Who, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Rob Roy, Max Headroom and Alexander. He also created the alien for 'Alien Autopsy', the black and white film that launched worldwide controversy around a UFO crash near Roswell, New Mexico. Humphreys' work is collected internationally by Mick Fleetwood and private collectors that wish to remain anonymous. John Humphreys' work is both surreal and super real. It challenges conventional perceptions of space and hints at a fourth dimension, fusing the mediums of film, figurative and abstract sculpture into one, and creating spacial problems instead of providing the answers. His sculptures urge the onlooker to think like the artist; to resolve what is laid before them. They reference emotions like shock or trauma; situations that alter our state of mind and how we see things. We are forced to look harder and think more deeply. John plays on his namesake when he is doing this sculpture. The other John is a Desmond John Humphrys, born 17 August 1943 and is an award winning Welsh broadcaster. From 1981 he was the main presenter for the Nine O'Clock News, the flagship BBC news television programmer. Interesting fact: John Humphreys just held a master class organised by Flat Space Art at Soho House in Notting Hill, in which a fortunate few got to understand and participate in "how to sculpt an eye". This man is old school and its an honour to be in the presence of someone so talented What's wonderful about this piece is that it is John. It makes this sculpture potentially extra collectable. In this particular piece he uses mixed media, fiberglass, latex paint, resin and synthetic resin paint. Its believable and life like. He paints the skin with latex paint, the skin colour is beige and baby pink, the eye colour blue and the head a shiny baldness. This piece took just under a year to sculpt. It is 46cm high, 37 cm wide and 43cm deep. This is a conversational wildly collectable piece.
