About the Item
Corinthian Kore Torso Bronze Sculpture Golden
For years Joris August Verdonkschot decicated himself to filming. He studied Law and Cultural Science and wrote a lot of filmscripts. Later in life he developed the skills to sculpt. This is his greatest passion, next to other interests, like model photography, writing and creating choreographies. He has been dedicated to sculpting for the last 25 years.
Verdonkschot has a vision: I think a sculpture should have its own vitality. Not only the image of natural life power, movement, and physical action, but a clenched energy, an intense own life, that is seperated from the image. When a work posesses this sort of energy, I don’t call it just beauty. Beauty, like the late Greek Art or the Renaissance, is not my goal. The power of expression is. Beauty caresses the eye, expression strives for mental vitality, more intense and touching a deeper level than the senses. Because there is more to a sculpture than to simulate natural appearances, it doesn’t mean escaping life, but reaching reality . I try to follow my passion from a state of innocence and to discover a new site of myself. Efforts to express a meaning to life, a quest to experience more intense.

Contemporary Bronze Ballerina Sculpture 'Tying Headband' by Benson Landes
By Benson Landes
Located in Shrewsbury, Shropshire
'Tying Headband' by Benson Landes is a stunning 20th Century Solid Bronze Nude Figurative Ballet Dancer. For Benson Landes, sculpture was most definitely a passion. His oeuvre of cast bronzes is populated with ‘off duty’ ballet dancers, rather wistful women, often caught in moments of solitary repose. Such an obvious appreciation of the grace and elegance of the female form was, no doubt, heightened by 25 years spent in the couture business, which Benson entered at the age of 14. The sculptor admitted that his time as an apprentice at his father’s clothing workroom and factory was given rather reluctantly, as he always harbored desires to become an artist. The young boy’s sense of responsibility was clearly equal to his creativity, though, as Benson knuckled down and learned the family trade. At the age of 18, however, a 2 year conscription to the RAF provided one of the few opportunities for Benson to experience artistic freedom. The possibilities of otherwise unobtainable materials such as pastels, paper, perspex and plaster of paris fuelled his ingenuity at the base’s well-stocked workshop. On completion of his RAF service, Benson briefly returned to the clothing factory...

Pop Culture, Bronze Sculpture: 'Athena'
By Joshua Goode
Located in New York, NY
Inspired by amateur archaeologists such as Heinrich Schliemann who discovered Troy and by past elaborate hoaxes like that of the Piltdown Man, Joshua travels the world performing staged archaeological excavations exposing the malleability of our history. During these performances he discovers his own versions of historical artifacts, crafted from objects from his youth--such as baseball cards, G.I. Joe action figures, POGS, and various other toys and items. His discoveries and claims, while false and absurdly comical, are based on real research.
Joshua Goode: Born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1981, Joshua Goode is researching and developing mythic historical misinterpretations and manipulations in an effort to expose the malleability of our past, present and future. His alternate history and mythology preserve memories of childhood ranch life in Texas by reimagining objects and imagery from his youth as iconic ancient artifacts. Having studied history and worked as an archaeologist on many actual excavations, he conducts staged excavations around the world, working with the community as a performance. The constructed artifacts of his invented civilization mix fact and fiction to appropriate and distort the history and myths of each region he engages. His ‘artifacts’ have been exhibited in solo exhibitions in international venues such as the Razliv Museum, St. Petersburg, (Russia); Capellades Museum, Barcelona, (Spain); Zendai Museum of Modern Art, Shanghai, (China); Darb 1718 in Cairo, (Egypt); LaSala Gallery, Zaragoza, (Spain); Galerija Miroslav Kraljevic...

Bat in Frame with Three Bean Pods
By Copper Tritscheller
Located in Napa, CA
A self-taught sculptor, Copper is drawn to what she considers the “misunderstood” animal, and much of her work centers on bats and burros. Pushing the barrier between animal and human, she approaches her subjects from all angles, playing on them as animals, and morphing them with human figures.
Copper was first inspired to sculpt bats when she was visiting a temple in Chachongsao, Thailand, where she encountered hundreds of thousands of bats hanging above her, wings gently quivering. Copper remembers that she had never thought about bats before, but at that moment she was captivated and started to research them. The more she learned, the deeper her respect for these marvelous creatures, and the more she wanted to find a way to help people understand and appreciate them. In her bat sculptures...
