About the Item

Kevin Box is an internationally-renowned sculptor working in cast bronze, steel, and other metals. His work pushes the boundaries of the casting process and celebrates of the delicacy of paper and the permanence of metal. Box's sculpture is whimsical and elegant, as he invites you to touch and experience the meaning of the work for yourself in a tactile way. As a child, Kevin Box developed a passion for creativity and the graphic arts during summers at his uncle’s design firm. Later, as a college student of graphic arts in New York City working primarily in paper, during a trip to Greece and in the presence of the sculptural longevity of classical antiquity, he began to desire to contribute to the lasting history of art. In a quest to learn the most permanent of fine arts, Box studied at foundries in Texas for three years, a decision which afforded him the freedom of experimentation. Ignited with inspiration, and empowered by a full service studio to work in and a treasure trove of paper found in the warehouse of an old print shop the foundry was renting, he started working with paper again. Box says of his technique: “It took two years of tireless experimentation for me to develop the process of casting paper into bronze, another seven years to perfect, and it continues to evolve today.” Today, Kevin Box’s monumental sculptures can be found around the United States including the city of Paramount, CA, the Austin City Symphony, TX, city of Little Rock, AR, the Four Seasons Hotel, Washington D.C., the African American Performing Arts Center in Albuquerque, NM, and around the world including Perth, Australia, the International Hotel, Morocco, and Oita, Japan.

Moxie Step It
By Dan Corbin
Located in Napa, CA
bauxite, sheet metals, shale, oxides, acrylic paints Dan Corbin's sculptures are a convergence of conceptualism and the human figure, illuminating what it feels like to be alive during current times, with all its beauty, complexity, contradictions, and possibilities. The artist’s sculptures address issues of contemporary society - materialism, industrialization and cultural change - while simultaneously referring to a wide range of human emotions. His sculptures lift the spirit while questioning what it is to be human. In Corbin’s archetype of man, intellect and soul are separate from the body. Armless, headless, anonymous cores can now be broken down to the smallest units, analyzed, engineered, beautified, and commodified. Corbin’s articulation of figurative sculpture takes iconography of the present and embeds it in the surface of his sculptures. He calls these miniature time capsules ‘inclusions’. Objects like cosmetic bottles, action figures, dolls, and feeder fish are sealed in resin and strategically embedded throughout the body. With these ‘inclusions’ the figure becomes a technologically enhanced vessel. The human body is no longer a container for a perfect being, handed down by god or evolution, but an aesthetically enhanced harbinger of a new era. In combination with the ‘inclusions’ Corbin uses a multitude of industrial materials, emphasizing the intrinsic value and physical properties of each. Each surface becomes fully charged with content, primed for multiple interpretations. Dan Corbin has been included in notable exhibitions at galleries and institutions including the Museum of Northern California Art...
