About the Item
This is a great sculpture with real gravitas and elegance. A great conception in terms of the forms and planes. Can be a star piece in a room - stone and surface are very attractive! Active primarily in the mid to late 20th century, Leo De Beer is known for his ability to blend abstraction with figuration, using the dense texture of stone to explore the expressive potential of the human form. His keen sensitivity to material and balance is evident in the harmonious interplay of mass and flow throughout his work.
In this semi-abstract seated figure carved from Belgian Bluestone, De Beer demonstrates a refined, contemplative approach to the human body. The angular forms are softened by smooth transitions, creating a quiet, grounded presence that captures a sense of introspection and stylized humanity.
De Beer often does not sign his works, this is from a Dutch dealer originally. The work has some weight to it so it must sit on a pedestal designed for art, or a very sturdy and strong table.
