Louis Albert Carvin
Louis Carvin Black Panther Art Deco Bronze Sculpture

1930

About the Item

Extremely rare black panther bronze sculpture by Louis Albert Carvin circa 1930. This is an example of pure cubist style in black patina, portraying a panther standing tall and proud. This fiercely cast feline has detailed musculature and sleek lines. The base is a triangular stepped marble with solid veins of black, white, and gray offset against the gleaming black finish of the panther. This bears the artist's signature carved into the bronze on the back leg. The body is rich black with a slight bronze cast, a powerful look with oversized paws. The piece was artistically rendered by a sculptor who spent a lifetime studying the form, style, and movement of animals associated with the Art Deco period. This statue carries on the tradition of Bugatti, Sandoz, and Paul Jouve, who help to depict and preserve these magnificent animals.
