About the Item

Miquel Aparici's sculptures are surprising assemblages made from old objects that had other uses in the past, and which the artist recovers and uses in a creative and ingenious way. The result is an original collection of unusual animals that test our imagination and invite us to discover the elements that make up each piece, in a fun game of observation requiring the complicity of the viewer. His work is characterized by simplicity, since most of his pieces bring together few elements, resulting in very elegant compositions with simple lines, which together with his creativity, endow his pieces with great expressive power. In addition to exhibiting in various galleries in Barcelona, Miquel Aparici's work has travelled to several other cities around the world (New York, Copenhagen, Fribourg, Madrid, Vienna and Milan), and has been shown at international fairs, such as ART Bodensee (Austria), ART Copenhaguen (Denmark) and Art Fair de Cologne (Germany), as well as institutions, such as the Museum of Natural Sciences in Barcelona and the Sagrada Familia Temple, which in 2005 brought together a curious selection of various pieces by the artist inspired by the animals sculpted by Gaudí. Other spaces that have recently hosted an exhibition of his work are the Cristina Enea Foundation (San Sebastian) and the Miramar Cultural Centre in Sitges (Barcelona).

Scott Gordon, Monument, 2020
By Scott Gordon
Located in Sharon, VT
Monument welded steel, found objects 20.5 x 16 x 4 in. Monument stands as a stark, enigmatic structure—part signal, part shrine. With its twin-columned base and vertical shaft crowned by a cantilevered horizontal arm, the piece recalls ancient markers or industrial relics repurposed for reverence. The form is at once rigid and reaching, grounded yet gestural. Its silhouette suggests a memorial to unseen histories—a tribute to labor, endurance, or forgotten architectures. The off-center balance and weathered presence give it a sense of quiet authority, as though it were a relic unearthed from a future past. With minimalist economy and ritual poise, Monument invites contemplation on permanence, presence, and the symbols we choose to elevate. Artist Statement I work with materials that have already lived a life — steel that’s rusted, bent, scarred. These imperfections hold a kind of quiet beauty, one that speaks not of utility but of presence. Though my work sometimes carries figurative echoes, I’m drawn to the non-figurative: the essential, the raw. Steel, once loud and forceful in its industrial context, becomes still and intimate in this new form. Each composition emerges through direct interaction with found parts. I rarely alter the materials beyond what is necessary. Instead, I allow them to dictate form — interlocking, balancing, and aligning until their relationship feels complete. The process is intuitive, the engineering elemental.Art, for me, is a spiritual act — a practice of selflessness and stillness. It doesn't seek acclaim or commercial appeal. It simply exists, honest and sacred. Biography Scott Gordon...

The central body, ears, and base of the sculpture are crafted from cut and rolled iron sheets, meticulously bolted together with bronze fasteners. The face and hands are made of satin-finished white epoxy, offering a smooth and refined contrast to the industrial materials. The legs and arms, formed from patinated iron pipes, feature aluminum joints and patinated bronze details, adding both durability and visual complexity. The shoes are composed of phenolic wood and earth-cast, turned aluminum, highlighting the artist’s attention to detail. A translucent acrylic plate, embedded with red epoxy inlays...
