"Rebel Journey" contemporary table bronze figurative sculpture whale freedom

2021

About the Item

"Rebel Journey " is a bronze whale sculpture created by Mireia Serra in 2021, as an extension of the Big Journey Whale Series. Cast by the lost wax technique, the sculpture is hand-patinated with a black patina. The whale is embossed with geographic coordinates of New York, London, Hong Kong, Barcelona and Sydney, cities that the artist loves, lives in and dreams of visiting. Edition Size: 8 BIOGRAPHY OF MIREIA SERRA Mireia Serra was born in 1973, she graduated from the Llotja School of Art in Barcelona, specialized in iron and bronze, then took an advanced bronze casting course in Llotja de Barcelona. She further studied in Barcelona with the sculptor Jorge Egea in the Museu Europeu d’Art Modern (European Museum of Modern Art), improving her portrait technique. Mireia creates sensuous sculptures showing the beauty of snapshots caught in life which are full of emotions and feelings along the life journey. Her little artworks capture the beauty of moments: A young lady challenged by the adventure of a new trip, a young man pondering about his dreams, a lost girl thinking about different options to know more about herself. Mireia vividly demonstrates how a piece of fine art sculpture could incorporate into our daily life, linking us with art that inspires and triggers us to contemplate about life and relationship. The sculptress aptly concludes her work as creating “Figurative sculptures depicting contemporary everyday scenes. Reflect my inner world thus expressing moods and desires, feelings, joys and concerns stemming from my relationship with the world”. At present Mireia lives and works in Barcelona, Spain.

  • "Little Mermaid" contemporary bronze table sculpture figurative girl thinking
    Located in Kowloon, Hong Kong
Little Mermaid is a bronze table sculpture, it is connected to a steel base. The edition size is 8. Joan’s latest sculpture series of female figures brings an out-of-the-box approach to sculpture creation. The small vivid women figures linked or bonded to their pedestals; the figures are delicate and intriguing representation of a woman’s mind and soul yearning for liberty, freedom, a moment of tranquility from busy daily life, or a space that she could spend the time totally with herself and for escaping from the routine and monotony. The woman made of bronze is warm and sensual and dances in/on a structure of rusted iron. She observes the world from her/ours solitude, from this vertiginous watchtower (metaphor of life, universe) rusted because the inexorable time. The base rises impressively, creating a contradiction between both pieces. However, in Joan’s work the geometrical base and the figure find a surprising harmony. BIOGRAPHY OF JOAN ARTIGAS PLANAS...
