About the Item
Natasha Dikareva's "Listen Europe" is a 14 x 19 x 9 inch intriguing sculpture from her "Broken Dreams" series depicting two figures sharing their connection by the tumultuous, dark blue cloud lurking on top of their heads. This is one of a kind, and hand sculpted from the finest stoneware. The surface of the sculpture is partly glazed and covered with stains to capture the unprecedented moment we live in. The artist signature is engraved on the side and on the bottom of the sculpture. The holes on the lower part suggest the idea they have been shelled by the physical and informational bombardment of bombs and propaganda.
Dikareva has been deeply affected by the war escalating in Ukraine, and her work has reflected this dramatic change. "Listen Europe" is about a shared geographic and cultural experience, speaking to Ukraine's position between Russia and the rest of Europe. The piece is also about the endless talks, negotiations, rumors and bureaucracy ensnaring us into passivity. As an eternal optimist, Dikareva believes deeply in the goodness of people everywhere. She states, “We are the Earth's consciousness, and it is up to us to steer the future in the proper direction”!
Born and raised in Kiev, Ukraine, Natasha Dikareva now lives in Newmarket, New Hampshire. Her ceramic sculptures explore interconnections between biological systems, mythology and contemporary technology. Drawing on her Eastern European background, her work bridges cultural and linguistic barriers, speaking to the common experience of life. She received her BFA in graphics and drawing from the Kiev State Academy of Art and Design, and her MFA in ceramics and sculpture from the University of Minnesota. She won the Grand Prize at the American Museum of Ceramic Art. Her work is featured in various publications, including 500 Prints on Clay and New Ceramics European magazine, and is held in public and private collections. She exhibits locally and internationally. Dikareva is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
