About the Item

This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. "La Famille" by Nicola Godden is a poignant original figurative bronze sculpture that celebrates the bond of family in a captivating abstract style. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this limited edition piece showcases Godden's mastery of form and her ability to convey emotion through abstract expression. At the heart of the sculpture stands a family of four, portrayed in a tender embrace that captures the warmth and intimacy of their connection. The figures, rendered in a striking blue hue, exude a sense of unity and togetherness, their forms intertwining in a timeless embrace. The medium of bronze adds depth and texture to the sculpture, allowing for intricate details to be revealed with each viewing. From the gentle curve of a parent's arm around a child's shoulder to the subtle tilt of a head in a gesture of affection, every aspect of the sculpture is imbued with meaning and emotion. "La Famille" is a testament to Godden's skill and creativity as an artist. Whether displayed in a gallery or as a centerpiece in a private collection, this sculpture serves as a timeless reminder of the importance of love and connection in our lives. Location: Artwork is for sale at Signet Contemporary Art, Chelsea & online. Artist biography: Nicola Godden is a British contemporary sculptor, boasting over 30 years of experience working primarily in plaster and clay for bronze casting. Born in 1959, the Surrey-based artist has produced site-specific works with property companies and other organisations. Her first large commission was the Hammersmith Man figure in 1988. In 2012, the artist created the Icarus sculpture for the Olympic Village in London. The bulk of her work has been private work of various sizes exhibited in galleries in the U.K and Ireland. Specifically focusing on the human form, the artist’s works express the figure in both abstract and realistic styles. Weaving a narrative into each unique work, the artist focuses on conveying feelings and emotions. Nicola’s work has developed and changed as she has matured as a professional artist, impacted by the way in which she embraces the transitory phases of her life and pulls from various sources of inspiration. For example, during a marriage break up, her work changed from the calm, smooth and serene ‘Mother and Child’ and ‘Couple’ works. She began to make pieces full of energy and angst which reflected her feelings at that time. This is reflective of a deeply personal relationship with her work. Nicola’s ideas are elicited from many areas. This includes found objects such as flint or bone found while out walking. Dreams, the subconscious and mythology are themes which she also investigates. Additionally, the artist finds experiences while travelling equally inspiring. Most presently, her ‘Ikarus’ series is inspired by her experience of learning how to fly. Preferring to create with immediacy and spontaneity, the artist uses the mediums of plaster and clay that give the sculpture tangibility. She enjoys it when people touch the work. Starting with a base of metal supporting armature, aluminium wire is moulded into a rough shape. Lastly, clay and plaster are added rapidly to this form. The rich history linked to bronze casting is valued by the artist, who is deeply involved at each stage of the process. “Most of my finished work is cast in bronze. Light reflects well off the surface and it can be irresistible to touch. Casting bronze is complex and time consuming and I try to be involved at each stage of the process; this metal is timeless and has its own fascinating history and, of course, should outlive us all. Over the last few years I have been excited by the mythological figure of Icarus and have produced a series of ‘Icarus’ pieces. These ideas began when I was learning how to fly (in an Ikarus C42 fixed wing Microlight aircraft) and the combination of man and wings is very compelling. I have created 13 pieces of sculpture in the ‘Icarus’ series so far.” – Nicola Godden

Tiny Dancer III - figurative bronze sculpture - contemporary artworks for sale
Located in London, Chelsea
Limited Edition of 11, Bronze & Bronze Mesh This abstract sculpture by Will Budgett creates a stunning shadow of a ballerina on the wall when illuminated. It comes complete with a light and base installation and remote control Off\On, as shown in the image, allowing the interplay of light and shadow to bring the artwork to life. The sculpture's clever design results in two shadowy figures, one gracefully mirrored on the right and the other on the left, as if two dancers are performing a duet in perfect harmony. Crafted from bronze and bronze mesh, the materials evoke a sense of strength and delicacy, capturing both the weight and the lightness of the dancers' movements. The dark metallic finish enhances the sculpture’s modern, industrial feel while the intricate mesh work adds a touch of softness, as though the figures could dissolve into air at any moment. The contrast between the solid sculpture and its fluid shadows creates a dynamic, ever-changing piece, where light is as much a part of the artwork as the bronze itself. Signed by the artist and ready to display, Tiny Dancers III offers a captivating addition to any space, bringing elegance, motion, and abstract beauty to the room. The sculpture is currently available for purchase at Signet Contemporary Art in Chelsea, as well as through their online platform. Artist Biography: Will Budgett's work delves into the dynamic interplay between light and shadow. His abstract sculptures, when illuminated by multiple lights, cast shadows that reveal recognizable forms, creating a striking contrast. The raw, brutal nature of his sculptures is softened by the graceful, fluid shadows they cast, exploring the relationship between what is visible and what remains concealed within an object. In his creations, light serves not only as a tool but as a storyteller, revealing and hiding the stillness and motion within each piece. A self-taught sculptor, Will’s background in design and advertising has shaped his ability to blend physical and allegorical elements in his work. He created his first shadow sculpture...
