About the Item
This ceramic head sculpture from the Testas series, titled Testa Nº12, is an expressionist exploration of the human face in refractory stoneware fired in reduction. The sculpture presents a rough, porous surface, emphasizing texture and materiality while evoking a sense of erosion and organic transformation. As part of the Testas series, this ceramic head belongs to a collection of unique variations on the human visage, each marked by organic irregularities, expressive asymmetries, and the unpredictable results of firing processes.
Working directly and intuitively with clay, the artist embraces accident and material resistance, allowing the refractory stoneware to record traces of spontaneity and imperfection. The result is a head sculpture that captures both individuality and universality, reflecting on identity and the collective condition. The strong visual presence of Testa Nº12 highlights the series’ central tension between singularity and resemblance, individuality and community.
This piece may be displayed independently or acquired alongside other ceramic heads from the Testas series. Special pricing is available for multiple acquisitions, reinforcing the potential of these expressionist heads to operate as a powerful sculptural installation when seen together.

Óscar Aldonza Torres (b. 1976, Santiago de Compostela) is a sculptor and Sculpture Professor at EASD Mestre Mateo. He holds a Diploma in Volume Techniques from EASD Mestre Mateo, a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, and an MA in Art Heritage Management from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Winner of the 1st Prize at the XIV Open-Air Sculpture Symposium in O Grove and 1st Accésit of the Francisco Asorey International Sculpture Prize (Cambados), his work has been presented in venues such as the Salon d’Automne in Paris, O Rectángulo de Ouro in Portugal, “Respostas sen preguntas” at Galería Sabor a Menta (Santiago de Compostela), and “Animalium” at the MIHL Museum (Lugo), among others. In his sculptural practice, Óscar Aldonza Torres positions the human figure as an intimate mirror, reflecting universal fears and inner doubts. His creative process—both impulsive and experimental—is underpinned by rigorous material research, allowing forms to emerge organically as each work evolves. Predominantly working in series, Aldonza Torres embraces ambivalence and conceptual openness, crafting open-ended narratives that invite viewers to engage emotionally—ranging from identification to repulsion and intrigue—and to complete the dialogue with their own perceptions.
