About the Item
Testa 9 is an expressionist ceramic head sculpture created in white stoneware with a bismuth Rakú glaze. This ceramic head belongs to the artist’s Testas series, a body of work composed of unique hand-modeled ceramic heads that explore individuality and collectivity. Each Testa is conceived as a one-of-a-kind ceramic head, deliberately rough in texture and marked by the organic unpredictability of the glazing process, embracing accident, erosion, and imperfection as part of its expressive power.
The surface of this expressionist head reveals layers of white and earthy tones, with subtle variations introduced by the Rakú firing process. The result is a sculptural presence that oscillates between fragility and permanence, recalling both ancient ritual objects and contemporary explorations of the human figure.
The Testas series works through direct and instinctive modeling of the human head, underlining the tension between singular identity and collective resemblance. While each ceramic head is different, when displayed together the series creates a striking reflection on individuality and community as inseparable dualities.
Testa 9 measures 58 × 39 × 35 cm and weighs 11 kg. It comes with a custom wooden crate for safe international shipping. Special pricing is available for collectors interested in acquiring multiple heads from the Testas series.

Óscar Aldonza Torres (b. 1976, Santiago de Compostela) is a sculptor and Sculpture Professor at EASD Mestre Mateo. He holds a Diploma in Volume Techniques from EASD Mestre Mateo, a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, and an MA in Art Heritage Management from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Winner of the 1st Prize at the XIV Open-Air Sculpture Symposium in O Grove and 1st Accésit of the Francisco Asorey International Sculpture Prize (Cambados), his work has been presented in venues such as the Salon d’Automne in Paris, O Rectángulo de Ouro in Portugal, “Respostas sen preguntas” at Galería Sabor a Menta (Santiago de Compostela), and “Animalium” at the MIHL Museum (Lugo), among others. In his sculptural practice, Óscar Aldonza Torres positions the human figure as an intimate mirror, reflecting universal fears and inner doubts. His creative process—both impulsive and experimental—is underpinned by rigorous material research, allowing forms to emerge organically as each work evolves. Predominantly working in series, Aldonza Torres embraces ambivalence and conceptual openness, crafting open-ended narratives that invite viewers to engage emotionally—ranging from identification to repulsion and intrigue—and to complete the dialogue with their own perceptions.
