About the Item

Nephiline and manganese glazed Buño clay head sculpture channels organic textures and existential introspection in Aldonza’s evocative “Testas” series. Nephiline-Manganese Glazed Ceramic Head (38 × 27 × 23 cm) is hand-modeled in traditional Buño earthenware, then fired at high temperatures before successive applications of nephiline and manganese glazes. The result is a richly variegated surface—matte grey, silvery highlights, and deep charcoal streaks—that dramatizes the interplay of form and material. Each “Testas” bust emerges through an almost automatic, direct approach to the human visage. Subtle asymmetries in the brow, nose, and jawline lend a unique individuality, while the shared stylistic language across the series invites reflection on the duality of personal identity and collective experience. In some versions, delicate iron elements accentuate the ear or neck, reinforcing the dialogue between ceramic fragility and metallic strength. Offered in museum-ready condition, this one-of-a-kind head arrives in a custom wooden crate (40 × 30 × 30 cm; packed weight 6 kg) with handling instructions and a certificate of authenticity. Collectors are invited to acquire individual “Testas” sculptures or commission the full series for a cohesive installation exploring the spectrum of human expression.
