About the Item
Expressionist ceramic head sculpture in red stoneware with Shino glaze. This Testa head sculpture No 7 belongs to Óscar Aldonza’s ongoing “Testas” series, where each ceramic bust is modeled directly and left open to the unpredictable variations of fire and glaze. Crafted from red stoneware and fired at high temperature with Shino glaze, the surface reveals complex textures, cracks, and chromatic shifts ranging from earthy browns to pale whites, evoking the raw materiality of clay shaped by fire.
The Testa head sculptures explore the human face through a direct and almost automatic process, creating unique pieces that share a collective resemblance while affirming individuality. Testa No 7, measuring 48 × 30 × 30 cm and weighing 6 kg, is a powerful ceramic bust whose presence is reinforced by its monumental proportions and rough textures. The expressive surface highlights the sculptural tension between fragility and permanence, individuality and collectivity.
Each Testa head sculpture carries strong expressionist qualities, deliberately rough and subject to organic chance, embracing the beauty of error and the force of the unpredictable. Collectors are encouraged to explore group acquisitions of multiple Testa heads, with special pricing available for combined purchases.

Óscar Aldonza Torres (b. 1976, Santiago de Compostela) is a sculptor and Sculpture Professor at EASD Mestre Mateo. He holds a Diploma in Volume Techniques from EASD Mestre Mateo, a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, and an MA in Art Heritage Management from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Winner of the 1st Prize at the XIV Open-Air Sculpture Symposium in O Grove and 1st Accésit of the Francisco Asorey International Sculpture Prize (Cambados), his work has been presented in venues such as the Salon d’Automne in Paris, O Rectángulo de Ouro in Portugal, “Respostas sen preguntas” at Galería Sabor a Menta (Santiago de Compostela), and “Animalium” at the MIHL Museum (Lugo), among others. In his sculptural practice, Óscar Aldonza Torres positions the human figure as an intimate mirror, reflecting universal fears and inner doubts. His creative process—both impulsive and experimental—is underpinned by rigorous material research, allowing forms to emerge organically as each work evolves. Predominantly working in series, Aldonza Torres embraces ambivalence and conceptual openness, crafting open-ended narratives that invite viewers to engage emotionally—ranging from identification to repulsion and intrigue—and to complete the dialogue with their own perceptions.
