Ray Padron
DEGLOVING - Stained Wooden Sculpture of Work Glove

2019

About the Item

DEGLOVING is a sculpture by Ray Padrón created in 2018 from red milled cedar wood. The piece belongs to a series of work centering around clothing items and their relation to people in the artist’s life. The sculpture embodies a working glove, originally belonging to the artist's father-in-law, who taught him a lot about craftsmanship. The sculpture’s title refers to an accident that the aforementioned father-in-law had during mill work, which tore the glove and the skin off his hand. The sculpture was based on a 3D scan, used previously for ST.ROPER (2016), while the cedar wood used for the relief was gathered directly from the same mill batch that was used by the father-in-law during his work. DEGLOVING was featured as part of the RepresenTENN group exhibition at the Channel To Channel Gallery.
