About the Item
This piece is created with real found snail shells and a durable epoxy clay by New York artist, Bethany Krull. The artist sculpts the undulating snail bodies to circle the rim of this vintage yellow mug and saucer set. The glistening wet bodies are surfaced with many layers of paint before applying the final slimey texture which is meticulously created by slip-trailing gloss gel acrylic medium onto the surface dot by dot. Krull sees the mug as a surrogate habitat that spotlights the dichotomy between wild and tame, interior and exterior and natural and artificial.
