About the Item

Edition of 12 'What Me?' by Richard Smith, the hare’s form is sturdy yet refined, its lean body poised in quiet readiness. The long ears rise attentively, slightly asymmetrical, as if tuned to distant sounds across a field. The patina adds a remarkable sense of life. Rich browns ground the figure in natural earthiness, while flecks and swirls of mottled white evoke dappling sunlight or the shifting tones of a hare’s seasonal coat. This coloration enhances the realism without sacrificing the inherent abstraction of bronze, allowing the piece to hover between representation and artistry. From every angle, the hare appears alert, embodying both vulnerability and swiftness, qualities that have long made it a symbol of intuition and transformation. As a work of art, the sculpture celebrates the hare not only as a creature of the wild but as an emblem of resilience. Its quiet intensity invites reflection, offering a timeless connection to nature’s fleeting grace.

'Boxing Hares' Bronze Sculpture of two fighting hares, patinated brown, wildlife
By Tobias Martin
Located in Shrewsbury, Shropshire
'Boxing Hares' by Tobias Martin is a Solid Bronze Animal Sculpture. Tobias Martin was born in 1972 in Wiltshire, 12 miles from Stonehenge. Influenced by his idyllic rural upbringing, and the forces of nature and magic that permeated his childhood surroundings, these works have something of the mystical about them. Each piece is approached with precise observation and an acute interest in the minutiae of the subject matter, manipulating the material with a delicacy and lightness of touch. Despite being realised in heavy materials such as bronze, the resulting piece achieves a sense of movement and character that conveys the essential spirit of the animal. Inspired by the work of Grinling Gibbons and Alfred Gilbert...
