Ruth Bloch
Sculptor Ruth Bloch encapsulates the grace, beauty and emotional depth of the human form while exploring the themes of femininity, family and companionship. Her curvilinear and minimalist bronze sculptures echo the works of such revered artists as Jean Arp, Alberto Giacometti and Henry Moore.
Bloch was born in Israel in 1951 into a creative family. Her mother, a ceramic artist, and father, a musician, encouraged her artistic inclinations as a child. Later, Bloch studied painting at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv and then took courses in psychology in the United States.
Although she trained as a painter, Bloch’s early sculptural works demonstrated innate talent and skill. Inspired by the fluid lines and delicacy of Moore’s work and the textured patinas and elongated forms created by Giacometti, Bloch developed her own unique contemporary style. Her slender figurative and nude sculptures often depict intimate relationships, as seen in Kiss, Flying with 3 Balloons, Couple in a Window and Long Figures. Other works such as Mother and Child on Bench and Dialogue portray the loving interactions of family, while her curving bronze sculpture Lady Moon captures the essence of feminine sensuality.
Bloch’s sculptures have been exhibited around the world, including at Art Miami, the Cafmeyer Gallery in Knokke-Heist, Belgium and Galerie Vivendi in Paris.
