About the Item
Harmony is a whimsical and lighthearted work that captures the playful spirit of a group chorus. The three figures, each with a distinct mouth shape, appear to be singing in different harmonies. Some sing with a relaxed ease, while others project with strength from the diaphragm. With just these subtle variations, Huang brings out unique personalities, as well as the sense of camaraderie and connection between companions.
The three sculptures can be freely arranged, allowing their relationships and dynamics to shift with each new placement. This flexibility adds richness and interaction to the work, inviting viewers to imagine the characters’ shared song in different ways.
Huang’s simplified yet expressive forms convey straightforward emotions with lasting impact. The natural, unrefined carving marks translated into bronze through the lost-wax casting method faithfully preserve the textures of the original wood. The layered patina further restores the warmth and gradation of the wood’s coloration, enhancing the charm and vitality of the piece.
