About the Item

A fine cast patinated bronze sculpture with impressionist figures by American sculptor Stanley Bleifeld (1924-2011). Bleifeld was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and was an art student at Temple University in Philadelphia. He began his fine-art career as a painter. However, a visit to Italy and exposure to the bronzes of Donatello, Michelangelo, and Ghiberti changed his direction. The focus in the course of his career included religious themes, work inspired by his service in the Navy during World War II and pieces that reflected his love of baseball. His best-known works include The Lone Sailor and The Homecoming, at the Navy Memorial, and baseball legends including Satchel Paige and Roy Campanella at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. His most recent major work, a tribute to the struggle for civil rights titled It Seemed Like Reaching for the Moon, was dedicated at the Richmond, Va., statehouse in 2008. Cast patinated bronze on polished stone plinth, monogrammed SB 63 on one corner, as well as signed and titled on base “The Arena”. Dimensions: Overall with plinth: 11.38 in H x 20 in W x 16.25 in D. Across the Divide
By Jane DeDecker
Located in Greenwich, CT
American, b. 1961 Jane DeDecker’s energetic and dynamic bronze sculptures serve as a reflection of her own life experiences and those of her closely-knit family. Her twelve nieces and nephews are the primary source of her inspiration, though DeDecker’s sculptures are not portraits. In fact, her loose style leaves her viewers with room for interpretation, so as to see their own lives within her sculptures. This imprecision, combined with her unique ability to capture specific moments to which each viewer can relate on a personal level, regardless of age, give DeDecker’s work a timeless quality that spans generations. DeDecker began her artistic training as a painter at the University of Northern Colorado, until a professor, noticing her joy in the portrayal of shapes and forms, suggested she try her hand at sculpture. Taking his advice, DeDecker went on to study at Gobelins School of Tapestry in...

Eugene Caples "Bronze Sculpture II" Abstract Bronze Sculpture
By Eugene Caples
Located in Detroit, MI
This small exquisite "Bronze Sculpture II" is in excellent condition and a perfect example of Eugene Caples craftsmanship. This is mainly abstract with some graphic or architectural elements and is so delightful that mythical creatures demand to be considered. It cries out to be touched and held, looked at and caressed. The beautiful patina on the surface gives voice to the many hands that have done these things. Eugene Caples is a designer and craftsman who worked in Kansas City in the 1960s and later through the early 21st century. He attended the Kansas City Art Institute, earning his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Industrial Design in 1959. In 1963 he was accepted to Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The Cranbrook Academy of Art was designed by architect and faculty member, Eliel Saarinen who collaborated with Charles and Ray Eames on chair and furniture design. Numerous creative artists are alumni of Cranbrook and include: Harry Bertoia, Florence Knoll, Jack Lenor Larsen, Donald...
