About the Item

An impressive and detailed marble bust sculpture of the Roman emperor Hadrian , carved in Polychrome specime marbles in a classical roman style in central Italy, in the 20th Century . Interesting is the selection of the marbles curated by the sculptor artist that selected a block of light Giallo antico for the head and a strongest block of Giallo antico for the bust too show to the observer the complete color tone of this is important and precious marble, used by the ancient time by the ancient Romans which they called marmor numidicum (marble of Numidia) and It was one of the marbles most favoured by the Romans. The sculpture depicts a bearded man with curly hair, wearing a draped brown tunic with intricate folds and pleats. The tunic has detailed carved textures showing the fabric's movement and folds. The sculpture is mounted on a marble base carved from a specimen and rare Aquitaine (France) marble, characterized by a cluster of black spots, generally angular in shape and measuring a few centimeters in size, separated by pure white veins, several centimeters wide, with an irregular pattern, interwoven to form a lattice. The name of the lithotype refers to its characteristic color. Designations referring to origin and/or color include: Marmor celticum (the Celts inhabited France before the Roman conquest); Aquitaine marble (from the historical region of the same name); White and Black of France. Other local designations include: Grand deuil and Grand antique. named Bianco and nero di Aquitania, , in The marble has a warm, honey-brown color with subtle variations in the stone's texture. The facial features are rendered with classical Roman portraiture style, showing strong, defined cheekbones and a stern expression. The beard is intricately carved with individual strands and curls. The sculpture is a high-quality reproduction, with exceptional attention to detail in the fabric draping and facial features.
