About the Item
This beautiful wooden figurine depicts a woman in a long robe with a hood covering her head and carrying a sack over her shoulder. The woman in the sculpture could be viewed as a working woman given the intensity of her face. Most likely, however, this a religious figure, possibly even a Virgin Mary representation. This wonderful hand sculpted work is from Chihuahua, Mexico, made from wood native to this northern area . It was acquired in the early 1960s in a gallery close to a church..The sculptor's artistry is revealed in the rhythmic marks left by the carving. The piece has a wonderful patina in a caramel.
