About the Item
A Roman Paonazzo Breccia And White Marble Portrait Bust of Julius Caesar 19th, monumental in size, the emperor with his head in a straight position, His mature face, with a thoughtful expression, deep-set eyes with incised irises and impressed pupils, incised eyebrows. His typical hair that radiates from the top of the head in wavy locks and gathers towards the neck leaving uncovered around the forehead and temples.
He wears a tunic, a breastplate and a cloak held by a circular pin on the right shoulder, the frayed hem of the cloak that fell in zigzag folds from the left shoulder, the entire bust carved from a single block of purple breccia while the head and the base carved from a classic white statuary marble from Carrara.
Gaius Julius Caesar was a the most important and iconic Roman general and statesman. A member of the First Triumvirate, Caesar led the Roman armies in the Gallic Wars before defeating his political rival Pompey in a civil war. He subsequently became dictator from 49 BC until his assassination in 44 BC. Caesar played a critical role in the events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire, could be can considered the founder of the empire
