About the Item

As a self-proclaimed topophiliac, Gregor Turk is known for ceramic sculptures, photography, mixed-media constructions and various public art installations, with the most recent at the Metropolitan Library in Atlanta, Georgia. Turk focuses on the fundamental qualities of mapping – “the mysteriousness, inherent biases, cultural authoritativeness, and ability to simultaneously represent and distort reality.” His passion is not necessarily the actual geographic information, but rather what that information tells us about ourselves as individuals and as a culture. Turk received an education from both Rhodes College and Boston University and between degrees served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Liberia, West Africa. His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions at institutions such as: The Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia, Delaware Center of Contemporary Arts, Ace Art, and Downey Museum of Art.

"Large Vessel" - abstract sculpture - Barbara Hepworth
By Susan Hable
Located in Atlanta, GA
Susan Hable is inspired by the work of David Hockney, Milton Avery, Henri Matisse, Alex Katz, Howard Hodgkins, Hilma af Klint, Georgia O'Keeffe, Barbara Hepworth and Constantin Brâncuși. With humor and a bit of mischief, Susan Hable’s “Don't Pick The Flowers!” is a body of work that is at once a refuge and a playground. Inspired by her sumptuous garden just outside of her Athens studio, Susan flows from one medium to the next from painting to collage to sculpture. Susan sees her garden as a place for adventure and daydreaming, challenging her perceptions of what her Art can be. Even a weedy ground cover has caught Susan’s eye, an overlooked invasive is seen in a new light becoming a dreamlike fairytale path. Her work asks us to engage in life, go for a walk and play. Susan Hable Smith is the artist and designer behind the boldly colored and hand drawn patterns of Hable Construction...

John Albert Murphy Porcelain "Dark Days Ahead" Sculptural Nested Bowls
Located in Detroit, MI
"Dark Days Ahead" is in fact a glorious paper-thin porcelain sculpture with fluted sides. The "two bowls and one ball" are nestled and permanently fixed. The black and white linear design to the porcelain is relieved by the movement of the fluted sides of the "bowls." This complex design is both light and airy while being visually weighted by the innermost "ball" being covered in a silver glaze suggesting heavy stainless steel. The ceramic piece is slip cast porcelain, masking tape stenciled and glazed in the style of abstract expressionism, specifically Pointillism.  It was fired in oxidation at 2230 degrees Fahrenheit.  The sphere in the center has luster glaze.
