Marcy Gregory
Night Song by Abstracted Quartet

About the Item

This assemblage evolved into a quarter of boxes evoking a jazz movement. MARCY GREGORY ASSEMBLAGE SCULPTOR Having studied art at the Art Students League in NYC and at The Palm Springs Art Museum, and having lived in the desert for over forty years, Marcy Gregory has made a name for herself locally, exhibiting in the Palm Springs Art Museum, The Art Place, Colin Fisher Gallery, the Izen Miller Gallery, D Gallery, and The Freed Gallery in Lincoln, OR. Making an assemblage sculpture from found wood begins with a scrap catching my eye. Its size doesn't necessarily determine the resulting piece. If it's small, it can be either a little accent on a larger piece or an integral part of a small piece. Sometimes it takes years for a particular shape to be used. People ask me where I find my scraps, and I tell them it's from walking with my head down and my eyes peeled. I am also asked how I know when a sculpture is done. It's done when no other piece can be added, and to know that I live with my sculptures for a while, observing them. Her work is evocative of Arnoldo Pomodoro, Noah Purifoy, Louise Bourgeois, and Louise Nevelson in the way cast off pieces become something new and provocative.

One of six works of a recurring theme in my work that symbolizes travelers under cover of night, going somewhere by various means. In this piece, they are traveling by rail. This series gives me sad pause to think about such a plight, but at the same time, I’m attempting to give the faceless beings a noble bearing, standing tall, and facing their destiny. • La Mer (the Sea)
    By Jean Adele Wolff
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
This painting was inspired by the many themes within my art. Duality is seen in the changing textures and colors, creating a strong sense of depth, concave to convex as well as dark to light. Emergence, another theme, occurs with each layer of paint. New forms start to emerge as if by magic, creating a sense of excitement and mystery. In this painting I hope to evoke the feeling of beauty as well as the challenges of the sea. Jean Wolff - Born 1947, Cleveland, Ohio Jean received her Bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Wisconsin. She continued her studies in sculpture and painting at Otis Art Institute, Los Angeles, CA and the University of California, Los Angeles.
