About the Item
Testa 14 is a large-format work from the Testas series, a sculptural project dedicated to the exploration of the human head as a universal and timeless form. Crafted in refractory stoneware fired in reduction, this piece incorporates embedded iron barbed wire, intensifying both its material strength and its conceptual resonance. With dimensions of 75 x 37 x 37 cm and a weight of 16 kg, the sculpture carries a commanding presence, heightened by the tactile energy of clay surfaces and the stark tension of rusted wire.
The Testas series approaches the head with directness and spontaneity, producing singular, unique works that—when viewed collectively—reveal striking similarities. This paradox invites reflection on the dual tension between individuality and collectivity, a theme that underpins the entire series. Each piece stands as a singular entity, yet together they speak of shared identity, the inseparability of the one and the many.
In Testa 14, the combination of clay and barbed wire underscores a visceral dialogue between fragility and constraint, organic presence and industrial harshness. The barbed wire functions both as structural element and as metaphor, amplifying the emotional impact of the sculpture. It is a compelling example of contemporary sculpture that merges material experimentation with conceptual depth.

Óscar Aldonza Torres (b. 1976, Santiago de Compostela) is a sculptor and Sculpture Professor at EASD Mestre Mateo. He holds a Diploma in Volume Techniques from EASD Mestre Mateo, a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, and an MA in Art Heritage Management from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Winner of the 1st Prize at the XIV Open-Air Sculpture Symposium in O Grove and 1st Accésit of the Francisco Asorey International Sculpture Prize (Cambados), his work has been presented in venues such as the Salon d’Automne in Paris, O Rectángulo de Ouro in Portugal, “Respostas sen preguntas” at Galería Sabor a Menta (Santiago de Compostela), and “Animalium” at the MIHL Museum (Lugo), among others. In his sculptural practice, Óscar Aldonza Torres positions the human figure as an intimate mirror, reflecting universal fears and inner doubts. His creative process—both impulsive and experimental—is underpinned by rigorous material research, allowing forms to emerge organically as each work evolves. Predominantly working in series, Aldonza Torres embraces ambivalence and conceptual openness, crafting open-ended narratives that invite viewers to engage emotionally—ranging from identification to repulsion and intrigue—and to complete the dialogue with their own perceptions.
