Picasso Madoura Ceramic A.R. 540 Personnage et Cavaliers
Located in Boca Raton, FL
Pablo Picasso A.R. 540
Personnage et Cavaliers
1968
3.9” x 6.3” Edition of 500
Plein Feu/Empreinte originale de Picasso, Partially glazed terracotta plaque.
Ramie 540 is a Madoura ceramic that one rarely sees come on the market.
The photo you see here is the actual piece that you will receive. Most sellers online post using stock photos that don’t necessarily match exactly to the piece you receive.
This particular piece is pristine: there are no nicks, bruises or scratches of any kind. Be careful when buying from others – the pieces sometimes have nicks or scratches.
The Certificate of Authenticity comes with this piece.
We have sold over 3300 pieces with all positive reviews.
We are located in the USA. When you buy from a foreign seller on 1stdibs, you have to consider the problems of getting the piece through Customs. There are often delays and considerable fees to pay in order to import the item.
When purchasing from us, we ship the same day and you receive it via FedEx the next day, no problems or hassles.
When you purchase from an auction house, you pay a buyer’s premium of anywhere from 23% to 28% over the “hammer price”. So when you “win” an auction for $20,000, the actual price paid is more like $25,000. By contrast, when purchasing from us, the price agreed to is the price paid by the buyer, no hidden fees.
When you purchase from an auction house, you pay the packing and shipping fees, which are usually exorbitant. By contrast, when purchasing from us, the price includes packing and shipping.
When you purchase from an auction house, the sale is final. If you receive the piece and are not 100% satisfied with it, there is nothing you can do about it. You are stuck with it. By contrast, when purchasing from us, the buyer can determine if they want to keep it. If not, the buyer returns to piece to us for full refund, and we pay the shipping both ways!
The prices of Picasso Madoura Ceramics have been on fire lately (no pun intended). The major auction houses – Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips – have now been regularly holding Picasso Madoura Ceramic auctions...

Matisse's Persian Woman - Sculptural Ode to Henri Matisse in Hand Built Ceramic
By Sandy Kaplan
Located in Chicago, IL
Henri Matisse collected Persian carpets, Arab embroideries and African wall hangings throughout his life, his studio becoming a treasure trove of exotic and vibrant pattern. The collection was practical — it was the impetus for various works with voluptuous women surrounded by rich textures and patterns. Sandy Kaplan takes Matisse's work to a three-dimensional level in her ceramic piece simply titled "Matisse's Persian Woman".

Outsider Art Wall Sculpture: 'The Red House'
Located in New York, NY
Gérard Cambon was born in 1960 in Toulouse (Fr).
He has a degree in political science and is a self-taught artist.
In the earlier years of his life practiced and experimented with collage and model making. Later, with an interest in old machines and patinas he started collecting old and used objects, tools, and fragments of items whose previous lives remained obvious. When he travels, one of his greatest pleasures is to find materials in antique shops or ironmongeries.
In 1994, he began creating Locomobiles and reliefs and presented them to the public for the first time at “La Jeune Peinture,” a Parisian art fair.
In 1995 , he stayed during 8 months in the hospital for eight months (leukaemia) where he began preparing and creating plans for new Locomobiles and reliefs. As his health improved, he committed himself to his artwork and during the same year met a Parisian gallery owner who decided to organize a solo show for him, Le Galerie Beatrice Soulie in Saint Germain des Pres.
He has shown his work since 1996 in Paris and since 2000 in the United States (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle). He is currently being shown by galleries in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg , Denmark, and the United States.
He keeps on trying out new materials (fabric, leather, glass, plants, metals,…) that he integrates into his bas-reliefs: traction engines...

My Favorite Clothes
By Robin Antar
Located in Wiscasett, ME
What's more comfortable than a pair of jeans? When I was working on the "What is America?" series, jeans were
at the top of the list of iconic clothes that symbolize American popular culture. Americans love to be comfortable
and we love our jeans! Carved out of a solid piece of limestone and hand-stained. On a custom made base with a
rotating base. Dimensions: 29"h X 12"w X 6"d. Pedestal is 42" high
American sculptor Robin Antar has been called “Brooklyn’s answer to Andy
Warhol.” Her mission is to create a visual record of modern American culture
through commonplace objects as she explores the question, “What is America?”
Meticulously carved in stone, a hamburger with fries, an American-made work

Cwtch, hug, hearts sculpture by Kerry Green, turquoise, blue, silver, contemporary
Since childhood, Kerry Green has always been creative; painting, drawing, sculpting, and sewing. Her family provided her with materials and encouraged her efforts. She literally grew up in her parents’ art galleries, and with them toured the U.S.,
Europe, Mexico, Japan, and New Zealand, seeing museums and visiting artists’ studios. Growing up in Arizona and New Mexico gave her the opportunity to explore the Native reservations there where she has made life-long friendships. Several of her very early influences were Dr. Harry Wood...

Reclining Figure
Located in Washington, DC
Sculpture by Brazilian-born artist Elizabeth Freire. B&W photo is of Ms. Freire with renowned sculptor Etienne Martin at the Ecole Nationals des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Elizabeth Freire is a Brazilian-born, contemporary American artist. At the age of eighteen, she left Rio de Janeiro and moved to Paris to study sculpture at l’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, receiving her Diploma there in 1979 under the direction of Claude Viseux, Etienne Martin, and Cesar. During that time she worked as an apprentice at the Fonderie de France where she learned bronze technique and she also attended etching courses at l’Ecole de Montparnasse.
In 1976, she won a commission to make three life-size figures representing the printing company, “Les Imprimeries de Boulogne,” at the International Printing Fair in Paris. She spent 1977 in Aix-en-Provence where she carved the local stone of Rogne.
Returning to Paris, the painter Lutka Pink introduced her to Otero, Frans Krajcberg and Hajdu from whom she received valuable lessons. In 1978, she traveled to Brazil where she was invited to participate in the exhibit ‘A Century of Sculpture in Brazil’. She also met with the sculptor Sergio Camargo...

Windows in the East - City Building by Night / Urban Scene in Sculptural Glass
Located in London, GB
Sympathetically capturing the essence of the urban landscape in his work, Jeff says - ‘I studied HND Art & Design at the Glasgow College of Building & Printing before working as a set artist for “the Complex” theatre, Los Angeles. I then went on to study BSc “Special Effects” at Southbank University, London, which led to employment in the Art/Special Effects departments on major movie productions including the Oscar-winning “Last Samurai” and Steven Spielbergs’ Oscar-nominated “Munich”. After several years working as a fine artist in the industry, I realised a lifelong ambition, setting up my own glass studio to research and work with the diverse materials and challenging techniques involved in the creation of multi-layered glass sculpture.’
