THE SCULPTURE WAS CONCEIVED IN 2008 AND WILL BE PRODUCED ON A COMMISSION BASIS WITH AN 8-WEEK LEAD TIME.
The series Lutz refers to as "Luxury Sculptures" are based on the forms of Louis Vuitton trunks in combination with the box sculptures of Andy Warhol. Lutz began this series in 2008. The works aim to create a feedback loop. Where Warhol elevated consumer products like Brillo and Heinz Ketchup to Fine Art, Lutz now takes those artworks and debases them by making them "luxury objects" in his own art practice. The works are constructed in the same manner as a genuine Vuitton, though in this case, Lutz has removed all functionality the original trunks would have provided, these are now closed systems only showing a surface of pure luxury. Each of these works is unique, hand painted, silkscreened and then hand tacked with hundreds of brass nails with hand-printed leather trim.
Although not functional as trunks or storage, these sculptures are elegant versatile objects in the home, aesthetically stunning from all sides, the artist has intended for these sculptures to be stacked if the owner wishes. The artist is in several major collections including as pictured in Architectural Digest John Demsey and Beth Rudin DeWoody and has shown work at Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and The Andy Warhol Museum in addition to several other major institutions. The first of the edition was used for the Italian printing of Arthur Danto's Beyond the Brillo Box.

Charles Lutz
Charles Lutz received his BFA in painting and art history from Pratt Institute and studied human dissection and anatomy at Columbia University, New York. Lutz's work deals with perceptions and value structures, specifically the idea of the transference of values.
Lutz's 2007 “Warhol Denied” series received international attention calling into question the importance of originality in a work of art. The valuation process (authentication or denial) of the Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board was used by the artist to create value by submitting recreations of Andy Warhol works for judgment, with the full intention for the works to be formally marked "DENIED" of their authenticity. The final product of this conceptual project being "Officially DENIED" "Warhol" paintings authored by Lutz.
Later in 2013, Lutz went on to do one of his largest public installations to date. At the 100th anniversary of Marcel Duchamp's groundbreaking and controversial Armory Show, Lutz was asked by the curator of Armory Focus: USA and former director of the Andy Warhol Museum, Eric Shiner, to create a site-specific installation representing the United States. The installation "Babel" (based on Pieter Bruegel's famous painting) consisted of 1,500 cardboard replicas of Warhol's Brillo Box (Stockholm Type) stacked 20 feet tall. All 1,500 boxes were then given to the public freely, debasing the Brillo Box as an art commodity by removing its value, in addition to debasing its willing consumers.

The Concorde Cap is one of an ongoing series of copper electroplated hats. Ranging from Superman to Nascar, the artist chooses hats from all walks of life before distilling through the electroplating process, transforming the once functional hat into an object of contemplation and beauty.
Shelter Serra’s sculptures and drawings explore notions of mass consumption and cultural identity. He juxtaposes objects that are both mundane and immediately recognizable: a 40 ounce bottle of malt liquor cast in plaster, a Best Buy cap plated in copper, and a designer handbag cast in resin, to name a few. Casting and plating these objects in unlikely materials—resin, plaster, platinum silicone, and copper—Serra strips them of their intended functionality, thereby highlighting their underlying cultural symbolism and transforming branded products into objects of aesthetic contemplation. “Refining an aesthetic and making beautiful objects, whether that be a dress, bag, or sculpture," says Serra, "is a celebration of pure creativity and personal vision.”
