"Behold the Behemoth"

2008

About the Item

"Behold the Behemoth," from my Insider series, is a powerful and thought-provoking sculpture that delves into the theme of hidden agendas and information concealed from the general public. The use of carved limestone and various metals adds depth and symbolism to this monolithic piece, serving as a visual metaphor for the guarded nature of secretive information. The sculpture's fortress or mountain-like stone carving creates a monolithic presence, evoking a sense of impenetrability and secrecy. The choice of limestone, with its durability and historical significance, adds a timeless quality to the artwork, echoing the enduring nature of concealed information. The key feature of "Behold the Behemoth" is the hidden network of wires nestled within a channel at the top of the sculpture. This network represents the secretive and highly guarded information that is reserved for a select few—those who have the privilege of gaining access to the top. The strategic placement of this network encourages contemplation on the hierarchical structure of knowledge and power. The wires that the butte (mountain-like structure) sits upon introduce an additional layer of meaning. They may symbolize discarded or dated information that is no longer of use to the group holding the reins of power. This subtle detail prompts viewers to reflect on the dynamic nature of information, its relevance, and the deliberate choices made in controlling what is shared with the public. In essence, "Behold the Behemoth" invites viewers to explore the concept of hidden information and its implications on societal power dynamics. The combination of materials and the sculptural form create a narrative that transcends the physicality of the artwork, urging viewers to contemplate the layers of secrecy, control, and the potential consequences of selective disclosure in the realms of influence and governance.
