About the Item

Title: "Above the Fray: An Intricate Dance of Stone and Privilege" "Above the Fray" stands as a captivating installment within my "Insider Series," a body of work that explores the interplay between smooth, almost pillowy, carved limestone forms and steel structures that exude both menace and provocation. Central to this series is the recurring motif of a steel-clad channel, penetrating each stone from top to bottom. These vertical chambers unveil a mesmerizing maze of bronze wires, symbolizing the expansive network of privileged information clandestinely guarded from the majority of citizens. The sculpture presents a harmonious yet tension-filled convergence of materials and forms. The limestone, meticulously carved to evoke a sense of tactile familiarity, appears to float above the menacing steel structures. The juxtaposition of the softness of the stone against the cold, hard edges of the steel creates a dynamic visual experience that is both alluring and unsettling. The steel-clad channel, a consistent element in the "Insider Series," serves as a conduit for the intricate bronze wires, representing the hidden pathways of information and influence that shape the world. The sculpture invites viewers to contemplate the implications of such hidden networks, urging them to consider the disparities in access to knowledge and power. "Above the Fray" encourages exploration not only through the eyes but also through touch, inviting viewers to engage with the sculptural narrative on a tactile level. As hands trace the contours of the carved limestone and navigate the steel-clad channel, a narrative unfolds—a story of privilege, information, and the complex dance between those who are above the fray and those entangled within it. Through this sculpture, I seek to prompt reflection on societal structures and the layers of information that remain obscured from public view. "Above the Fray" is not just an artwork; it's an invitation to unravel the hidden threads that shape our understanding of the world, a visual metaphor for the complex relationships between power, privilege, and the obscured networks that influence our collective narrative.
