About the Item
This 3" x 6 " x 5" ceramic work by Oklahoma artist, Roger Runge consists of a wheel-thrown porcelain bowl positioned on a handmade porcelain base sculpted to resemble a natural rock formation. The surface decoration employs commercial ceramic decals featuring purple irises with detailed petal gradations from deep violet to pale lavender, accompanied by green foliage elements.
The supporting "rock" element showcases an irregular, organic form that convincingly mimics weathered stone. The surface treatment combines various green and gray tones, ranging from olive to sage green with charcoal and lighter gray accents, applied to create realistic textural variations.
"I was introduced to pottery as a teenager by a favorite aunt. A true passion for the medium was instilled in me by a charismatic ceramics teacher at Southeast High School in Wichita, KS. As a senior at Norman (OK) High School, I was fortunate to enroll in the first pottery class offered at the Firehouse Art Center. The founders, instructors, artists, and supporters of the Firehouse became my community. I was able to work and teach and serve on the Board of Directors at the Firehouse while I studied Ceramic Design at the University of Oklahoma.
After college, I accepted the position of Resident Potter at a cozy, community craft center, The Craft Alliance, in Shreveport, LA. I taught classes, managed the clay studio, and even lived in an apartment carved out of the attic of the big, old Victorian house that was The Craft Alliance. My position included teaching ceramics classes for LSU-Shreveport and Centenary College.
By the time I returned to Oklahoma as Executive Director of the Firehouse Art Center, I had moved out of the studio and was not making pottery. Professionally, my life moved from non-profit management to graphic design and publishing—with some retail sales management thrown in along the way. Happily, I had an opportunity to pursue another personal passion when I joined the team of the small-but-amazing landscape design firm, Garden Design Associates, in Oklahoma City. As soon as The Studios at Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center in Oklahoma City opened, I signed on to rent pottery studio space. I've found another community of faculty and staff and fellow renters and students who support and inspire me every day."

'Untitled Assemblage #S3-23', by John Wolfe, Mixed Media Abstract Sculpture
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
John Wolfe's Mixed Media Abstract Sculpture, "Untitled Assemblage #S 3-23" brings together wood, steel, ceramic elements, and acrylic paint. The warm colors of the wood and painted ceramic elements soften the feel of the rectilinear arrangement. The shallow depth of the work gives the sculpture a kind of "drawing" quality while the shadows it casts lend a more expansive feel. The heavy, dark wood base anchors all aspects of the work in place. This work is the perfect tabletop piece. It's large enough to command attention, but also subtle in its open framework arrangement.
John Wolfe was born in Vernon...

'Danae, ' by ArmanH, Bronze Sculpture
By Arman Hambardzumyan
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 20.47" x 9.44" x 10.62" bronze sculpture by Armenian artist, Arman Hambardzumyan, was created in 2013 and depicts the tragedy of the Greek goddess Danae. The artist's interpretation of this classical Greek myth, where an oracle foretold Danae would bear a son who would kill her father, and in an attempt to evade this, Acrisius, her father, imprisoned her. The king of Gods - Zeus, desired Danae and came to her in the form of golden rain. The oracle came true, Danae conceived a son, Perseus, who killed Acrisius by accident. The expressive love between Danae and Zeus is imitated by the naked body of a woman and a golden shower on her body.
"The image of a woman always inspires me in both physical and spiritual beauty. In this sculpture, I tried to express the image of a woman with her soul, which has no smell, taste and is not tangible. The contour of the beautiful shimmering body of a woman allows you to feel the presence of the female soul inside."--ArmanH
Arman is an Armenian artist represented in several major collections around the world including the Terra Garden in Kikinda (Serbia), Contemporary Hall of the National Museum of Fine Arts (Chisinau, Republic of Moldova), Boyajyan Center for the Arts (Prague, Czech Republic), and at private collections in Europe, Asia and in the USA.
This work was exhibited in 2015 in 2015 Myths, Folk Art Museum after Hovhannes Sharambeyan. Yerevan, Armenia. Exhibit coordinator: Armine Beglaryan; and at the Art Expo, New York, April 21-24, 2017, organized by Redwood Art...
