- Concorde Cap, Electroplated Copper Contemporary Art Sculpture by Shelter SerraBy Shelter SerraLocated in Brooklyn, NYConcorde Cap Shelter Serra 5.5”x7”x9” Electroplated Copper 2017 The Concorde Cap is one of an ongoing series of copper electroplated hats. Ranging from Superman to Nascar, the artist chooses hats from all walks of life before distilling through the electroplating process, transforming the once functional hat into an object of contemplation and beauty. Shelter Serra’s sculptures and drawings explore notions of mass consumption and cultural identity. He juxtaposes objects that are both mundane and immediately recognizable: a 40 ounce bottle of malt liquor cast in plaster, a Best Buy cap plated in copper, and a designer handbag cast in resin, to name a few. Casting and plating these objects in unlikely materials—resin, plaster, platinum silicone, and copper—Serra strips them of their intended functionality, thereby highlighting their underlying cultural symbolism and transforming branded products into objects of aesthetic contemplation. “Refining an aesthetic and making beautiful objects, whether that be a dress, bag, or sculpture," says Serra, "is a celebration of pure creativity and personal vision.” His Fake Gun...Category

- Chiseled stone sculpture from my "Insider Series" titled "Disengaged # One"By Mark Beltchenko StudioLocated in Grosse Pointe Park, MITitle: "Insiders Series (Disengaged #1.): A Tactile Journey Through Form and Narrative" "(Disengaged #1.)" from the "Insiders Series" emerges as a singular masterpiece—a one-of-a-kind sculpture meticulously crafted from hand-carved limestone and an assortment of metals thoughtfully chosen for their color and malleability. This work, like its counterparts in the series, transcends the boundaries of visual exploration, inviting the beholder to engage in a tactile experience that unravels a narrative both familiar and enigmatic. The sculpture beckons exploration not just with the eyes, but with the hands—a deliberate choice that transforms the artwork into an interactive encounter. As hands traverse the surface of the stone, a world unfolds, both impenetrable and inviting, offering a tactile journey that complements and completes the visual narrative. Each touch becomes a discovery of the familiar and the unknown, an invitation to unravel the layers of meaning embedded in the carved form. The core of this freestanding sculpture is hand-carved Indiana limestone...Category
