About

Bronze sculpture of a pod of Dolphins by Winston Walter Carmean (American, 1925-2010). Signed, numbered, and dated "W. W. Carmean 11/50 1982" on the underside of one of the dolphins. The small edition of dolphins was a special commission for the Cousteau Society Fund. Winston Walter Carmean (American, 1925-2010) attended Salinas Jr. College from 1943-1944 before leaving to join the U.S. Merchant Marine Cadet Corps during WWII in the South Pacific. Upon returning, he attended U.C. Davis where he majored in animal husbandry and row crops. He then attended San Jose State College and U.C. Berkeley where he took mostly science courses. Winston worked for Holly Sugar and Holt Bros. Equipment Co. and spent his working life focusing on agriculture. His interest sculpting evolved with his interests and pursuits in life - he had enjoyed surfing and sailing, and his love of the West and the world of cowboys and ranching are all reflected in his sculpture's subjects.
