In Picasso's Cubist paintings, he emphasized the two-dimensionality of the canvas, breaking with conventions regarding perspective, foreshortening and proportion. The results were unlike any paintings that came before. His work would go on to inspire other artists working in the Cubist movement, but his influence also extends to other 20th-century art movements, including Surrealism, Neoclassicism and Expressionism.
