Pablo Picasso (1881 – 1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright who is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore. Exceptionally prolific throughout the course of his long life, Picasso achieved universal renown and immense fortune for his revolutionary artistic accomplishments, and became one of the best-known figures in 20th-century art. Created circa 1994 as part of a limited run of 500 pieces, this handled portrait vase is stamped 296 Edition 29A out of 500 Picasso by Padilla Mexico and bears an original Padilla paper label. The front is signed "Picasso" in blue script, reflecting the artist’s unmistakable style.
Standing 12 inches high, 5.5 inches wide (including the handle), and 3.5 inches deep, this piece features a striking hand-painted abstract portrait. The cream/ivory base is accented with dark green outlining the rim, while ochre tones are used for the expressive scraffito hair-like design.
