Djinn Chaise Lounge in Ivory Boucle by Olivier Mourgue, Airborne, France 1960’s
By Olivier Mourgue, Airborne International
Located in Culver City, CA
This chaise lounge 'Djinn' by Olivier Mourgue for Airborne international, France 1964-65 is beyond stunning. Mourgue, a highly regarded designer holds a very important place in the world of modern French design. This chaise is well known for it's appearance in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and is part of the collection of the Centre de Pompidou and the Moma in New York.
This Djinn chaise has been outfitted with new straps, foam and luxurious curly boucle on it's tubular steel frame. This epic piece of mid century modernism is equally as beautiful as it is comfortable and will quickly become your favorite lounge in the house. The only things missing from this tableau are a glass of wine and a good book.
This chaise in our gallery is currently paired with a Vladimir Kagan cloud sofa, a Paul Evans credenza and a Karl Springer coffee table-- and not only does this chaise hold its own, it makes a bold modern statement in such an elegant biomorphic / organic way. This piece would look incredible paired with elegant Danish modern design, or perhaps in a mid century modern, wabi sabi, or even Hollywood regency environment. Although very modern in shape, this piece would effortlessly pair well with even more traditional or boho chic, Tommy Bahama or even shabby chic French country beach house style...
