About the Item

Olivier Mourgue France (1939-) A graduate of the Ecole Boulle, Olivier Mourgue enrolled at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. From 1964, he worked closely with Airborne for which he designed the Joker armchairs, the Djinn, Tric-Trac and Whist series. The Djinn lounge chair was chosen by Standley Kubrick to equip the space station for his 2001 film: "A Space Odyssey", and is now part of the permanent collection of MoMA in New York. In the 1970s, he stood out above all for his character seat Bouloum, his Fourre-Tout (1972) and Toy Seats series. In 1976, Olivier Mourgue moved to Brittany. He worked for Renault for three years (from 1977 to 1980). In the 80s, he exhibited at the VIA and imagined the Sledge seats (1984). Olivier Mourgue has received numerous awards, including the First International Design Award (1968) and the Grand Prix National de la Création Industrielle (1991).
