Olivier Mourgue emblematic Djinn Chaise Longue for Airborne

About the Item

The Djinn chaise longue, designed by Olivier Mourgue (born 1939) for Airborne in 1963, is one of those very few quintessential and emblematic early space age designs which - much like the character from the 2001 a Space Odissey movie where they were notoriously featured - evaded space and time to, at first glance, catch the eye and the heart of the beholder, no matter the context nor the timeframe. This model is part of the most important museum collection such as New-York's MoMA and Metropolitan Museum or Paris's Centre Pompidou. Olivier Mourgue chose the Djinn name in reference to the benevolent Oriental spirit, underlining the chaise longue's light weight and coziness, playful lines and colorful tones, infused by, as in the designer's own word, the Pop Art spirit of the times. This original chaise longue has been respectfully and carefully reupholstered, honoring its pleasing comfort with brand new Bultex foam, elegantly dressed in an intense and warm yellow Kvadrat fabric, extremely satisfying to both the eyes and the touch.
