Vienna Augarten Horse, Spanish Riding School Figure Type: 'Capriole' The rider stands next to the Lippizzaner Horse, who is about to jump, and holds it by the reins. The figure depicted is called 'Capriole' (Italian 'capriola' which means high jump) and it's an exercise of classical School of Riding where the horse has to jump very high: After having arrived at highest point of flight path the horse has to kick with hind legs in order to touch down again in safe manner. On white oval base with golden painted rims, inscriptions 'Capriole - Spanische Reitschule' and 'Hofburg Wien'. Vienna Augarten Horse Spanish Riding School Figure type: 'Pirouette' The seated rider leads the striding horse with the reins; he has a sword attached to his side, the rider's red jacket is decorated with a gold button hem and epaulets. The striding horse denotes a figure called 'Pirouette': pirouettes are ridden as a step, gallop and piaffe pirouette on two hoofbeats. The forehand moves in a circle around the hindquarters, which, however, also describe a very small circle around a center point as close as possible to the inner hind leg. The model was created by Prof. Albin Doebrich, circa 1930.
