Aysha Taysumova Paintings

I was born in January 1995, in Grozny. It was the beginning of the war in Chechen Republic. Post-war childhood, frequent travelling, rural school and Grozny - it all reminded me of a gray art house, which, unfortunately, left its mark. All my work is a sublimation of the problems that I, being a practicing Muslim girl, face in modern realities. Staying true to myself has become the starting point for me to express myself as an artist. The search for the correct expression of my thoughts forced me to experiment a lot with style. This path led me to Collage. But this is not the only language I learned to speak. Photo still life became a revelation for me. Using objects to make up whole stories and being able to say something important never ceases to inspire me. Our whole world consists of collage, the essence of which is to collect important fragments, the ability to put them on one canvas in order to to emphasize the most important thing. This is my goal. Brushes and canvas are integral part of my life now, it opened new opportunities for me since I refuse to paint images of living creatures due to my religious beliefs.

Untitled (abstract 17)
By Andrea Stajan-Ferkul
Located in Mississauga, Ontario
Contemporary abstract painting. The use of Stajan-Ferkul's distinct neutral palette is carried through into her abstract paintings where emphasis is put on simplifying the composition. Textures and patterns play a large role in her minimal yet powerful work. // Andrea Stajan-Ferkul is a Canadian artist whose work conveys a sense of experimentation through the use of paint, fabric collage and abstract mark-making. While not exclusive to fashion, dresses have been a compositional focus throughout her oeuvre. With an emphasis on timelessness, her series of dress paintings shift between realistic representation and interpretive impressions. In contrast, her series of abstract works embrace minimalism, considerate to a restrained palette and composition. Stajan-Ferkul began her career in fashion advertising before shifting her focus to fine art in 2000. Her work has been exhibited widely through galleries and art fairs, and hangs in private and public collections across Canada, US and Europe. A graduate of Sheridan College of Art and Design, Andrea's paintings can be found in numerous public and private collections, her work has been published in magazines and book covers, and prints are distributed internationally. In 2009, Stajan-Ferkul was invited to exhibit her work in Ottawa’s Rideau Hall, hosted by (then) Governor General of Canada, Michaëlle Jean. keywords: abstract, minimal art, minimalism, grey, pink, modern art...
