Questions About Beaver and Tapley Bookcases
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
Beaver hats that were felted from beaver fur exclusively were termed castor. If the hat was partially beaver fur and partially some other type of fur, they earned the term demi-castor. Further confusing the issue, the hat would also be named based on its shape. On 1stDibs, find a collection of authentic beaver hats from some of the world’s top sellers.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
Yes, beaver fur is a popular fur type. Beaver fur was highly coveted during the 1500s throughout the 1800s because of its softness and resilience. Beaver hats in particular were widely popular throughout Europe, with different styles denoting civil and military status. Shop a selection of authentic beaver fur goods on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
Like any fur, real beaver fur is identified by examining the item closely. Real fur will be dense and soft to the touch. To determine if a material is real or synthetic, look at the lining to see if the material is uniform or coarse, indicating it is man-made, or smooth like suede leather, indicating it is a real fur hide. Closely examine the hair as well. Real fur strands will taper into a point, similar to a sewing needle. Experts recommend working with a furrier to confirm the authenticity of any fur item. Shop a selection of beaver fur coats on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
Sheared beaver fur is short-haired fur that is free from guard hairs, making it denser and softer to the touch. Sheared beaver fur is often used for fashion garments for warmth and for an elegant look. Browse a wide range of sheared beaver clothing and accessories on 1stDibs.
