The cartouche-shaped frame cornered by espagnolettes and centered by two love doves perched on acanthus leaves and roses, with a lyre crossed with a quiver of arrows. The sculptural Mounts designed by Leon Message Stamped BF (Bouhon Frères) and B&C 40 to the backside of the bronze mounts. Maison Bouhon Frères was an important French producer of fine fireplace tools in the nineteenth and twentieth century. An exceptional pair of 18th century English Rococo gilt bronze andirons or fire dogs. The bold shape of these andirons relate to designs of Thomas Johnson (1714–1778), one of London's pioneers of the 'Modern' or French style, later known as Rococo.
