Vitreous means made of glass: the ancient technique is almost forgotten today and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufactory to master it at the highest level. About guilloché: Guilloché refers to a class of enamel with abstract geometric patterns cut into the surface of precious metals and showing clearly through the overlying glaze. The manner in which the design is engraved into the metal increases the luminous quality and play of colors in the translucent glaze when the object is rotated to catch the light. About peridot: Peridot, sometimes called chrysolite, is a deep yellowish-green transparent variety of olivine. Peridot is one of the few gemstones that occurs in only one color. Peridot can be found in mafic and ultramafic rocks occurring in lava and peridotite xenoliths of the mantle. Exquisite Antique Swiss green guilloche enamel and silver locket. We believe the piece was a ladies pocket watch previously and converted to a locket later. This enamelled locket was made in Switzerland and it's decorated with a hand painted romantic scene of a pair of a man leaning against the bricked wall towards a last in a dress.
