Located in Praha, CZ
The both of chairs are marked with the manufacturer stamps / see photos / and originally dated 1.Oct.1974 and 27.Aug.1974. The original condition, including the original cloth upholstery Lacquered surface with normal traces of use - abrasions. The Garden Egg chair was designed by the Hungarian émigré Peter Ghyczy 1968, who started his working career as chief designer for the Polyurethane factory 'Elastogran GmbH' in Lemförde (West Germany). The license to produce the chair was sold to the VEB Synthesewerk Schwarzheide close to the city of Senftenberg. The latter gives the chair its other name, the 'Senftenberg Egg'. Officially, one third of their production was for the West German market, the rest for East Germany and for export. The production was halted in 1975 as the lacquering remained problematic, yet the chair became an iconic 'east' German product, due to its popularity in trade shows and exhibitions / Jana Scholze - Garden egg chair by Peter Ghyczy...

1978 Molded Plywood Armchair Set of 2 in Oak by Peter Danko for Thonet
By Peter Danko, Thonet
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Chairs listed and sold as a set of (2) It is truly no surprise that this same chair is in the permanent collection at The Smithsonian American Art Museum. Meditate on the genius involved in crafting each chair from a single sheet of layered ply. Cutting and molding a single medium into functional art with a style so timeless, the revival exceeds the debut. Designed by Peter Danko in 1978 and produced by Thonet, all but one chair had their original factory tags underneath. The three tags were gently removed and bagged separately during our restoration. Exquisitely re-upholstered in red-orange weave fabric to harmoniously compliment the honey colored oak frames. Our restoration team spent countless hours touching up the frames. Although a few still remain, most chips and scratches were expertly mitigated before we applied a topcoat to match the original. We're certain these chairs will meet expectations. The chair was gifted to the museum by Lloyd E. Herman, founding director and director emeritus of the Renwick Gallery (1971-1986), in honor of Michael W...
